Strathmore Children’s Centre

A three-year partnership of the Strathmore Community Bank and Moonee Valley City Council is proving a force to be reckoned with when it comes to helping families in the Strathmore area.

The dynamic duo has completed an important upgrade and expansion of the Strathmore Children’s Centre.

Right now, the project has increased services for local families and, in the longer term will continue to address the fragmentation of existing child care services by consolidating facilities in one location.

The works are part of stage one of a $1,000,000 upgrade and involved:

  • expanding the number of long day care places from 35 to 76
  • adding two maternal and child health rooms to the facility
  • upgrading the existing rooms and adding two new rooms for children to learn and play
  • adding a new kitchen and bathroom area
  • improving and upgrading what is now a beautiful outdoor play area with new equipment
  • adding an undercover veranda area so children can play outdoors all year round

Mayor of Moonee Valley, Narelle Sharpe, says she is delighted to have Strathmore Community Bank involved.

This partnership is a great example of the positive outcomes that can be achieved with organisations and community working together.

The centre also has a new community foyer area, made possible by the Strathmore Community Bank.

The foyer’s been designed to create a vibrant entrance to the centre, as well as providing a space for community groups to use outside centre hours.

We have also enabled the centre to ‘go green’.  Our partnership with the council has provided much-needed funds to purchase and install solar panels for electricity and hot water. Their water and power bills will be a bit lighter in future and that’s a good thing — let alone the easing of environmental impact.

The now integrated services, along with some great landscaping designed to encourage safe, play-based learning for children, has turned the Strathmore Children’s Centre into a modern facility the area can be proud of.
